Event Details
This year, Children's will be hosting a Spirit Week to get pumped for the Summer Reading Kickoff Foam Party on Saturday, May 31 from 1-3PM. Some events are all-ages, other are for Children only. Please read the description thoroughly. Each day has a different theme, indicated below:
Sunday – Book Character Cosplay - 1:30-4:30PM
Visit us anytime during regular business hours (1PM-5PM) and show off your book character cosplay! Take a picture with the book you're "from" and get a small prize for participating! Best costume gets a bigger prize, announced via Facebook by Ms. Jamie later this week.
Monday – Temporary Tattoo Parlor - ALL DAY
Visit the Temporary Tattoo Parlor in Children's from 9:30AM-8:30PM to receive one free temporary tattoo of your choice (we will put it on your arm ONLY). Donate a gently used CHILDREN'S book to Ms. Jamie's Free Book Cart and get an extra tattoo per book donated, limit 3.
Tuesday – Blue Day - ALL DAY
For Blue Island Public Library! Visit the library dressed in blue AND check out a book with a blue cover. Take a photo in your outfit with your book to receive a small prize!
Wednesday – Super Hero Day - ALL DAY
Come dressed as your favorite super hero and check out a graphic novel starring them, and we will take your picture & you will receive a small prize. (If you participated in Book Character Cosplay, you cannot receive 2 prizes for the same costume).
Thursday – How to Train Your Dragon Party - 6PM
Join us in the Makerspace as we celebrate the release of the new movie, in theatres June 13. We will watch the original (starts at 6PM), eat snacks, and make a dragon-related craft (while supplies last). Come dressed as your favorite character to earn a small prize! (If you participated in Book Character Cosplay, you cannot receive 2 prizes for the same costume). This is for children and their families, 8th grade and under only.
Friday – Crazy Streak - ALL DAY (we close at 5PM on Fridays)
Come check out the first book you're going to read for Summer Reading this year and get one (1) fun streak of color in your hair to remind you to keep your reading streak going all summer! (temporary spray will wash off if it comes in contact with water)
Saturday – Summer Reading Kickoff Foam Party - 1-3PM
Come sign up for the 2025 Summer Reading Program and play at our foam party! (After being in the foam, participants will be DAMP/WET and WILL NOT be allowed back inside the library. Thank you for your understanding).
